A warning large waves could batter the western coastlines of Auckland and Waikato this afternoon

A warning large waves could batter the western coastlines of Auckland and Waikato this afternoon

WeatherWatch head weather analyst Philip Duncan says they could get as high as eight metres.

He says that makes it very dangerous for going out in a small boat, or fishing off rocks.

Duncan says the swells will drop tomorrow, but on Wednesday and Thursday they could be dangerously high in southern and eastern parts of the South Island.
