The man charged with murder after a central Whanganui stabbing in January can now be named
16 May 2019
He is Jarrod Dent.
One person died and five others were injured after knife attacks allegedly carried out by Dent on January 22.
Dent, 36, has made his first appearance in the High Court at Whanganui, where his interim name suppression ceased before Justice Jill Mallon.
No mention was made of a psychiatric report ordered by Judge Chris Sygrove when Dent appeared in the Whanganui District Court on January 23.
Dent was not required to enter pleas to a charge of murder, or five charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm - as he recently acquired new counsel in Elizabeth Hall.
Dent was remanded in custody and his next court appearance will be a case review hearing on July 4.
