Concerns over emergency access are prompting design changes for Christchurch's Riccarton Road

A planned tree-planted median strip along the city's second busiest road will be shortened - with fewer trees - to ensure there are no barriers for emergency vehicles.
The Council's Lynette Ellis says it's a main route for emergency services responding to incidents and accessing Christchurch Hospital.
Work on the median is expected to start in 2020.
