A man has admitted to carrying out a homophobic attack on a Kiwi journalist

A man has admitted to carrying out a homophobic attack on a Kiwi journalist

In February, homophobic slurs were yelled at Newshub reporter Aziz Al-Sa'afin and friendon Karangahape Road, before a group of men punched and kicked them.

20 year old Joden Martin has appeared in the Auckland District Court, pleading guilty to charges of assault and injury.

Martin's lawyer says her client carried out the attack because he holds certain religious views.

But Judge Robert Ronayne says it was a vicious, unprovoked, and targeted assault... for which prison should be the starting point.

Martin was remanded on bail and is due to be sentenced in July.
