Graeme Mark Lowery is on trial in the Dunedin District Court charged with the ill-treatment of an animal and preventing the course of justice.
The 54-year-old allegedly threatened to tell an investigating police officer's wife that the man was having an affair.
The ODT reports the defendant's identity was suppressed - but the order has lapsed and defence counsel isn't pursuing its continuation.
The Crown contends Lowery killed the animal when it began taking his salmon and ripping holes in his nets.
