A substantial chunk of New Zealand's ice is now gone for good

NIWA's latest aerial survey of South Island glaciers found a stark pattern of decline - caused by hotter summers than ever before.
Climate scientist Dr Andrew Lorrey says the survey - that's run for 41 years - is showing a serious problem.
He says 30 percent of the country's ice has disappeared - meaning hundreds of glaciers have been lost.
