Scott McLaughlin's claimed pole position and a new lap record at the latest Australian Supercars event in Winton

The kiwi driver's blitzed the track in qualifying in a time of one minute-eighteen-point-five-two-three-three seconds.

McLaughlin will join Shell V Power Racing teammate Fabian Coulthard at the front of the grid for the second race of the weekend.

He says he always felt the car had potential to put up a good number.

McLaughlin says he's proud that the team got a front row lock out and he got pole.

The race is scheduled to start at 3:45pm.
