Roger Federer has made a successful return to the French Tennis Open in Paris

Four years after his last appearance at Roland Garros, Federer has made an impressive start.

He's dispatched young Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 20 years after the 37 year old first debuted in Paris.

Another 37 year old Nicolas Mahut?has ousted last year's surprise semi finalist Marco Cecchinato in five sets, while 5th seed Angelique Kerber has been the major opening day casualty in the women's draw.
