Matt Henry's had a better record than Tim Southee in one day internationals of late.
However, he was the most expensive bowler during the 91-run warm-up loss to the West Indies at batting-friendly Bristol, conceding 107 runs in nine overs.
Southee benefited from favourable bowling conditions at The Oval against India, taking one for 26 from seven overs.
Boult's played a dead bat when asked who he'd prefer, saying he's not the coach or captain, but it's great there's competition for places.
Boult has been the pick of the New Zealand bowlers in the lead-in, taking eight wickets from the two games.
