The South Island State Highway Network is already bearing the brunt of heavy rain and strong winds

Traffic has slowed on state highway 7 - at Hanmer Springs Turnoff To Springs Junction - due to high river levels.
There's flooding on State Highway six in parts of Tasman and on the West Coast
Strong winds are being felt on SH 87 and state highway 85 in Otago.
In Southland, there is light snow on SH 94 Te Anau to Milford
Snow is also expected on the Lewis Pass Arthur's Pass and the Crown Range Road from this afternoon and evening.
