Police accept IPCA ruling over three unlawful arrests last year
Police accept an IPCA ruling that better communication was needed between an arresting officer and their supervisor, over three unlawful arrests last year
6 June 2019
In February 2018, four young people were arrested in Manurewa, in South Auckland.
The Independent Police Authority's released its report, which found because three of the group were under 17, their arrests were illegal.
It also found the arresting officer was not sure why he had arrested the group, but that police did NOT use excessive force.
The officer put one youth in a headlock and took him to the ground - and the IPCA says that was reasonable in the circumstances.
