Ophthalmologists are predicted to face a 20 percent increase in workloads by 2028.
And New Zealand chairman of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Dr Peter Hadden says the aging population will only make it worse.
He says the most common issues they see - like cataracts and glaucoma - are diseases of aging, so will only become more common.
