Hawke's Bay's District Health Board says a letter from its nurses has come out of the blue

The New Zealand Nurses Organisation has sent a letter to the health board seeking urgent action over working conditions it says are compromising staff and patient safety.
Chief nurse and midwifery officer Chris McKenna says the DHB has spent around 2.5 million dollars over the past two years recruiting new nurses - and has more investment planned.
She says they've done that through a partnership they thought they had with the nurses organisation.
Chris McKenna says they will be meeting with the union as soon as possible.
