Landlords excluding tenants with young children could be breaking the law
Landlords excluding tenants with young children could be breaking the law
15 June 2019
Dan Lusby, of Tauranga Rentals, says he haa spoken to 10 landlords in the past week who did not want young children in their houses.
The Human Rights Act states it is unlawful to discriminate on the basis of family status - including having or not having responsibility for children.
Mr Lusby says kids are the new pets that some landlords don't want living in their properties
With a tight rental market in Tauranga where demand outstripped supply, landlords have their pick of tenants and are likely to choose couples, working people or families with older children.
