A call to ban the import of cars with low safety ratings

A reference group has recommended the government stop light vehicles, with fewer than three safety stars, from crossing the border.
That would stop the import of many older models of Toyota Corollas, Suzuki Swifts, and Mazda Demios.
But the AA's Mark Stockdale says before the government thinks about a ban - it should see if customers will change buying habits themselves.
He says many people are willing to pay more for a safer vehicle - but it's not a requirement to provide safety information at the point of sale.
