Auckland Council has five banned guns locked in a safe
Auckland Council has five banned guns locked in a safe with 'Do not use' labels, as it waits for instructions from police
19 June 2019
The council did an audit of its firearms following law changes after the Christchurch attacks.
Customer and Community Services director, Ian Maxwell, says the five shotguns are now prohibited because their magazines contain one more round than is permitted.
He says police have told the council to store the guns in a safe, while they wait for instructions as to how and when the firearms can be handed over.
Ministers and the police are holding news conferences tomorrow to release more details of the gun buyback.
