    Horrific level crossing smash in the Bay of Plenty

    There's been an horrific level crossing smash in the Bay of Plenty


    Two people are dead and two others badly hurt after a car and train collided on Pongakawa School Road.

    Emergency services were called around 8.15.

    Three ambulances, a helicopter and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene.

    Two people have been taken to Tauranga Hospital - one is critical and the other is in a serious condition.

    The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.

    Motorists are asked to avoid the area.
