Running a District Health Board isn't easy.. but Dr Karen Poutasi is doing it for Waikato in place of its board

Health Minister David Clark appointed her Waikato DHB Commissioner a little over six weeks ago - to turn around its financial woes, governance and clinical services issues.

Speaking exclusively to Newstalk ZB, Poutasi reflects on how DHBs have changed since they were established under her, while she was Director-General of Health.

She says there are opportunities DHBs haven't fully explored to ensure services are seamless.

Poutasi says DHBs can offer better service delivery if care is primary, secondary and tertiary care is better aligned.
