The former world number one has won his doubles match with his Spanish partner Feliciano Lopez, toppling top seeds Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal in straight sets.
It's Murray's first match since undergoing career-saving hip surgery in January.
Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios has accused an official of "rigging a game" during his first round singles match at the tournament.
The world number 39 ranted at umpire Fergus Murphy after losing a set point , which he thought was a double fault and was in turn given a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Kyrgios eventually won the match, but lost his second round match later in the day against Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in three sets.
