Holiday Parks New Zealand says there's a better way to help local councils struggling under the weight of tourism than a bed tax

Holiday Parks New Zealand says there's a better way to help local councils struggling under the weight of tourism than a bed tax

The Productivity Commission's draft report on local government funding released this week says councils in tourist centres should be able to implement an accommodation levy.

Holiday Parks chief executive Fergus Brown says he sympathises with local government but there's a fairer way.

He says a proportion of the GST paid by international visitors should be redistributed from central government to local government.
