People caring for disabled family no longer have to be employed by the person they care for
8 July 2019
It's part of changes to Funded Family Care policy, which will allow partners to be paid to look after their disabled or ill loved ones.
The policy had required the person with high needs to employ their carer.
Associate Health Minister Julie Anne Genter says work's underway on alternatives, which ministers will consider in the next few months.
She says there's no requirement for family members providing care under ACC to have that employment relationship, so they believe it can be managed for Family Funded Care.
