Police say the man and his partner were sitting in their car on Reeves Road in Pakuranga when they were approached by a group about 11.30 last night.
The group allegedly forced them out of the car, chased them down the road and attacked the man.
Counties Manukau Police Senior Sergeant Steve Neade says the group -- and the vehicle -- are yet to be located.
He says an investigation is now underway, and police are appealing for any information.
