Nearly four months after the mosque attacks - the buy back of newly illegal firearms begins

Police are encouraging Canterbury gun owners to hand in their weapons at Riccarton racecourse between 10am and 3pm.

Senior sergeant Craig Scott says firearm owners can either register online before they go or use the computers there.

More than 900 Cantabrians have already registered for the buyback.
