Auckland boatie's cops fine for reckless crash, but Maritime NZ says it could have been much worse
An Auckland boatie's copped a fine for a reckless crash last year, but Maritime NZ says the accident could have been much worse

Andrew Hutchings' boat - the Maraetai Star - smashed into a moored boat at Waitemata Harbour - at a speed of 15 knots.
He was fined more than five-thousand dollars for the nighttime collision, which knocked two people unconscious and caused extensive damage to both boats.
Maritime NZ's Neil Rowarth says it could easily have turned fatal, if the vessel capsized and threw the unconscious passengers into the sea.
