Air passengers travelling from Invercargill will soon face screening lanes and x-ray machines

Air passengers travelling from Invercargill will soon face screening lanes and x-ray machines

The airport is getting a half million dollar cash injection, as it gears up for the first direct jet flights to and from Auckland since 1995.

It's part of a 1.7-million-dollar Provincial Growth Fund investment to drive Southland's growth.

Invercargill Airport General Manager Nigel Finnerty says they are upgrading the airport for larger aircraft.

He says they're working on security facilities so they can screen passengers and luggage.
