Viliami Taani was sentenced in the High Court at Auckland this morning.
Taani shot Epalahame Tu'uheava and his wife, Yolanda, several times on April 30 last year in Mangere.
Justice Hinton says it is difficult to imagine a more serious crime.
Taani will serve a minimum period of 17 years and six months behind bars.
