A police officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing in pursuing two alleged robbers at high speed through Lower Hutt

A police officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing in pursuing two alleged robbers at high speed through Lower Hutt

The officer was on patrol in June last year when he witnessed a robbery outside a liquor store on Waiwhetu Road.

Two men sped off from the scene, prompting the officer to begin a pursuit.

He briefly reached speeds of 112 kilometres per hour in a 50 kilometre per hour speed zone.

The fleeing car came to a stop when it collided with a civilian vehicle and the two men were arrested.

The IPCA has found no issue with the way the pursuit was conducted, or the speed the officer drove at.
