A forty-seven year old man is due in court today, after a steamroller was driven over cars at a boy racer meet in Wellington

The incident in the Upper Hutt suburb of Silverstream, injured two people and damaged five vehicles.

Footage from the night shows people standing back in astonishment, before scrambling to get out of the way as the steamroller ploughs through cars.

Police attended the scene immediately, and two men were taken into custody... one has since been released.

Officers say this was a serious incident which had the potential for tragedy... and anyone who sees concerning activity should call police rather than taking matters into their own hands.
