Fire crews arrived at the Strathmore house on Sunday to find a corner of the house and front door ablaze.
The fire started when the family were distracted by cooking.
They managed to escape with no injuries.
Fire Assistant Area Commander Gareth Hughes says there would've likely been five deaths if there were no working alarms, as the front door was the only exit.
