The women's 470 crew of Susannah Pyatt and Brianna Reynolds-Smith have jumped nine places to finish 15th at the world championships in Japan.
Six spots were on offer to nations who hadn't already qualified the class for the Games.
It means New Zealand has now qualified eight of the 10 classes for Tokyo.
Pyatt says it came as a shock.
Paul Snow-Hansen and Dan Willcox have already qualified the men's 470.
They're into the medal race in 10th, but won't factor in the medal equation.
