New Zealand appears to have escaped drenched, but unscathed, from rolling thunderstorms overnight

Metservice has forecast squally thunderstorms will continue for many parts of the country through to this morning.
It was predicted to be particularly severe in the Wellington region, however the thunderstorm warning was lifted last night.
A heavy rain warning remains in place.
Train commuters on the Kapiti Line were also temporarily held up, after lightning struck a mechanical section of the track.
A Fire and Emergency shift manager for the South Island says there were 2 minor flooding calls overnight in Greymouth and Waimate.
Snowfall warnings are still in place for passes and high altitude roads through the South Island.
