Police netting all sorts in search for dangerous suspect
Police are netting more than they may have bargained for in the search for a dangerous suspect, but not the man himself
15 August 2019
They've been looking for 21-year-old Liam Strickland for over a week - in connection to a fatal hit and run in Christchurch.
They've searched 24 properties - made 15 arrests - and recovered stolen guns, cars and drugs in the search.
University of Canterbury sociology professor Greg Newbold says Strickland's believed to have gang ties - so police are probably using this as an opportunity.
He says they can carry out searches on any property they want, if they suspect those living there could be harbouring the fugitive.
