Waikato police are all armed - as a homicide suspect remains at large after the killing of an Australian tourist in Raglan.
And last night officers wrapped up two manhunts - finding one fugitive who'd been on the run in Canterbury for nine days, and a man who'd been evading Gore police for two days.
Former police officer Hamish Piercy says it's an intense activity that can be stressful for officers and their families.
He says that includes staff who are called away from home, and local officers who are faced with a far bigger police force than normal.
