The Coroner will investigate how the murder of a five-year-old Christchurch boy could have been prevented

Leon Jayet-Cole - who had autism - died in Christchurch Hospital in 2015.

A Coronial Inquest has been set down for November.

This is the second part of an inquest into his death - with the first establishing he died from more than 44 injuries including major head trauma.

It will focus on whether agencies failed to secure Leon's welfare.

Leon's stepfather, James Roberts, was charged with his murder - but died before his trial began.

Child, Youth and Family has said it worked with the family - but didn't find any evidence of physical abuse.
