Wellington's new Children's Hospital will have cutting-edge technology to protect it from earthquakes

Wellington's new Children's Hospital will have cutting-edge technology to protect it from earthquakes

The first steel framing has gone up at the site and the hospital is expected to be open in mid-2021.

Philanthropist Mark Dunajtschik fast-tracked the project with a 50-million dollar cash injection.

He travelled to San Francisco to try to find the best base isolators in the world.

Health Minister David Clark says the ones used at the hospital are the same as under Apple's new headquarters.

He says they're state of the art and will make the building one of the safest in Wellington.
