At least 50 so far have written to the Education Minister and Jacinda Ardern.
They want a systematic phonics literacy approach, after a Massey University report said that's the best learning method for children.
Learning Matters director Carla McNeil was a teacher and principal - and has a child with learning difficulties.
She says New Zealand needs to catch up with international literacy standards.
