That's the message from National road policing manager Superintendent Steve Greally.
Police are joining Vodafone in warning drivers to put their phones away behind the wheel.
Greally says it's just too dangerous.
He says they see too many come grief because they took their eyes off the road to check a text message - which is not urgent.
Meanwhile Police in Auckland have launched a month-long operation ensuring drivers stay focused on the road.
