The man who's alleged to have killed Australian Sean McKinnon in Raglan has deferred his plea on murder charges, due to mental health concerns

The matter had a first hearing in the High Court in Hamilton this morning, but on medical advice, Justice Lang has excused the man due to stand trial.

Neither the Crown nor the man's defence opposed the deferral..
The 23-year-old man will be required to enter a plea on his next hearing appearance, set for October 29.
The accused did not attend the hearing and will be remanded in custody until then.
The three-week trial has been set down to begin on 16 November next year.
