Winston Peters says taxpayers shouldn't foot the bill for Ihumatao

Kiingitanga has helped mana whenua reach a consensus that the land should be returned to them.

It wants the government to negotiate with Fletchers to get it back.

The Acting Prime Minister says a press statement from Kiingitanga implies New Zealand taxpayers will have to pay for it.

However, he questions why they should have to or want to do that.
