One person has drowned after a boat flipped trying to cross the Manukau Bar

Emergency services were called just before 12.30 this afternoon.

Coastguard, an ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter went to the scene on Auckland's west coast.

A Coastguard spokeswoman has confirmed the fatality but says it is now a police matter.

A member of the public helped pull two other people from the water and they're believed to be well.

Everyone on the boat has been taken to the boat ramp near Huia.
