Just before 10.30 last night Ohakune police were conducting a breath test, when a man
pulled a gun on police.
He and a female accomplice then hijacked the patrol car, crashed it into a gate post and fled on foot.
The man is believed to be 33-year-old Tama Michael Rawhiti.
It's not the first time Rawhiti's been wanted by police.
In 2012 officers went searching for him after they found loaded firearms and drugs at his address and he was recalled him from parole.
Police say Rawhiti should not be approached.
