The number of building consents being issued for flats and townhouses in Auckland has reached a 15-year high

Almost 38-hundred were consented in the region in the year to August.

That's an increase of 22-percent on the previous year, with townhouses now making up a quarter of new home building consents.

Monthly new home consents also rose slightly, following falls in the last two months.
