The All Blacks lock has been out for 11 weeks as he rehabilitated a shoulder dislocation suffered against South Africa in Wellington.
He's been named to start against Namibia in tomorrow's rugby World Cup match.
He says he had prove he had no issues around tackling, and it was defence coach Scott McLeod who took a hands-on approach to finding out his readiness.
