Otago University Students Association urging students not to use social media to ignite dangerous rumours

The Otago University Students Association is urging students not to use social media to ignite dangerous rumours - following a death at a student party

19-year-old Sophia Crestani died and two other people were seriously injured when a party on Dundas Street became overcrowded on Saturday night.

In a Facebook statement, O-U-S-A asks people to respect the police investigation and not use social media as a tool to share stories or further traumatise people.

It's extending deepest sympathies to the victim's family and friends - and is urging students to seek support.
