The concept would've seen teams from the Six Nations and a six-team Rugby Championship playing each other before cross-over games and finals.
It was pulled in June after failing to get support, especially from Europe.
Now some pundits, including former England coach Sir Clive Woodward, have mooted a similar concept in the wake of Japan's World Cup quarter-final appearance.
Veteran swingman and captain Tom Abercrombie's signed a one year contract extension with the Breakers.
