Massey University health professor Sally Casswell has written a piece in the Lancet Medical Journal, arguing for the World Health Organisation to tackle alcohol harm.
She says online platform algorithms mean adverts reach their target crowd - and the Government can't control it.
Casswell says serious questions need to be asked around what messages alcohol adverts are sending consumers.
