A major shake-up of prison sentences for meth crimes in New Zealand
A major shake-up of prison sentences for meth crimes in New Zealand
21 October 2019
The Court of Appeal's released a landmark judgment today.
The quantity of meth will still be important in sentencing, but judges will now have more discretion to consider whether a individual is a kingpin making millions ... or a street dealer.
An offender's poverty and deprivation will also be taken in to account as potential mitigating factors.
Meth dealers who can prove their own addiction caused their drug offending, could have their sentences cut by 30 per cent.
