Police are urging people to be prepared if they're heading into the outdoors over the long weekend

Police are urging people to be prepared if they're heading into the outdoors over the long weekend

A 54 year old Wellington man was located yesterday - after going missing on the Milford Track.

He only told a friend he would see him 'at the end of the week'

Search and Rescue Coordinator Sergeant Ian Martin says the man spent three nights in a steep gully.

He says people should take a compass, locator beacon and cellphone - and leave their travel plans with a contact person.
