A nine year old girl is calling for more public water stations around Auckland in a bid to reduce the purchase of water in plastic bottles

After travelling to Europe with her family last year, Lilah McDonald realised Auckland has a small number of water fountains available for public use in comparison to overseas countries.

She says her goal is to have 100 new water stations around the city by the end of the year.

Lilah says it will benefit people's health as well as the environment.

She says people who can't afford water often turn to unhealthy alternatives like soft drink - so making water accessible to all is vital.
