Hamilton City Council's CEO is urging the government to remove paper based voting in local elections in a bid to encourage more voters

Hamilton City Council's CEO is urging the government to remove paper based voting in local elections in a bid to encourage more voters

In the local body election earlier this month, voter turnout in the city increased six percentage points - but CEO Richard Briggs says it's not enough.

He says a paper based system does not encourage engagement.

He says we have a literate IT generation - so it's surprising paper ballot voting still exists.
